Was one of Uncle Tom’s kinder sayings when I was growing up, often in his company either on the Farm or at those numerous big family get togethers, remember all those bbq steaks! We always expected a gentle ribbing from our wicked ‘monocled’ Uncle Tom but loved him for it as he was such a generous and fun person to be around.

There are many stories to tell of fun times together and I look forward to such a time we can share them over a drink but there was a gentle side too. I was often in his car (the flying wedge, tart trap etc) when he would impart his wisdom and his Silk Cuts, one time he came to collect me from school and decided to have a pint on route home. It was when my Mother, his sister was ill and the kind way he broke the news to me of how serious it was has stayed with me. After Mother passed he was also a massive help setting me up at Manchester Uni, a move which I will be forever grateful for.
